Going black and white: what to name him

I read that no one understands the love an owner has for his/her pet then another pet owner so if you're not a pet owner, don't even bother reading this, but if you are, maybe you can relate and please help us.

As I described Life with Maya before, My cat is just an adorable calico.  really, it is a little person in a cat's body.  If she could only speak we'll have the longest winded conversations ever.  She's come to be my best friend and has taken a lot of my personality.

As a child, I was the kind to pick up animals off the street and bring them home until my mom could find a way to make them "dissapear" and tell me the animal ran off.  Years later I found our she'd take them to a shelter.  I guess if she told me the truth, I would have moved into the shelter.

Back to Maya.  She was found in a litter in an alley by a friend and I soon thereafter adopted her.  She's a year old now and what a year it has been.  She can be rebellious at times, but I may be too demanding.  Haha! I have even asked her to pick up her toys and she talks (meows) back at me as if she understood and was telling me that's one thing she can't do.

I have noticed that she's starting to develop what I call an "only child syndrome".  She gives a lot of love nudges but demands them back.  She has become a bit anti-social with children specifically, my little cousin.  Something must have happened between them and neither of them are saying anything.  She really changes when my cousin comes to visit.  Gets very grumpy and just looks plain irritated.  You may be thinking the worse but my cousin won't hurt a fly and she's an animal lover as myself.  I honestly think there's a whole this is MY cousin-this is MY owner rivalry going on as my cat wont leave my side when mini-me (my cousin) is around.

Anyway.  All this got me thinking that perhaps we need another kitty, I've been lusting over one I even wrote my Tuesday Treat about that one day.  It took me a while to convince my family and boyfriend (even though none of them reside with me) I still wanted to have their support and FINALLY!!! we're (I'm) getting a new kitten.

Getting Maya acquainted to the home wasnt hard at all.  She made it her own in no time but she still knows who's in charge, or at least who feeds her.

I have been reading soooo much about bringing a new kitty home and it's a major transition for pets and humans.  But we will hopefully be well prepared.

Two litters of four kittens were found on the streets of New York and one mommy (the other is MIA) and kittens were temporarily adopted (and mommy fixed) by two amazing families until the kittens can be released to their permanent families. Most kittens have been adopted (thank God) and we are finally bringing our baby is coming home on Friday. Vet has given the OK! and Maya is getting her yearly shots today.

We still don't have a name for our new baby... PLEASE HELP!!!!!!  also any tips about new baby in the house???

    1. I know so awesome of them. When God cant tend to animals himself he sends little guardian angels to care for them. I heard about keeping them away and introducing them slowly. Thank you

  8. Your cute baby looks just like mine did when we adopted him. Our cat's name is Jake and he is now six years old. I call him my little tuxedo kitty. He is a handful himself and talks to us constantly. He needs a playmate himself, but I'm not sure how he would react to another.
If we adopted another cat I think we would just introduce them and see how your other reacts to him. I heard sometimes they become friends right off the bat.
If you would like to see my Jake you can go to my blog..In fact I just posted something today that is really cute. http://www.oncebittennails.blogspot.com
I wish I could help you with a name. Maybe his little personality will help you come up with one that's just right.
    Good luck!!

    1. Jake is soo lucky to have you <3 I thought about tux too! but for my mom, who barely speaks any English, the name doesnt sound like anything =( haha! Dont you love it when they "talk" to you? that's why we're getting this little guy. Maya needs a playmate and better soon rather than later.
Thank you. I didnt think about waiting to see how he's like to name him. Great point!!!

    2. I hope this is one of those instances where they become friends right off the bat as opposed to frenemies.

  9. Instead of naming the little fluffball yet, give him/her a couple of days and watch her behavior. I've found that pet soften name themselves with their personality or behavior, and those are the best names because they really fit. Congrats on the new baby and thank you for adopting!

    1. greetings kitty-mama!! it's so rewarding I cant wait to have real children , well, MORE real children, Maya is pretty real.. oh well.. you know what I mean lol... My kitty's "daddy" liked the Maya and Max idea. Thank you. I love the name of yours =)

That's also why we're getting another one. What if Maya really has a thing against children and one day I pop a couple or a few?? I think we'll have a problem and I'll refuse to get rid of the kids and the cat lol

  11. We have a 14 week old rescue kitten that looks almost exactly like yours! My kids named her Mittens because of her four white paws.

I agree with Patty. Get your new fur babies name from traits of her personality.

  13. I second the name Spike. I had a black and white cat named Spike for years and he was the sweetest cat ever.. he's been gone now for a few years but I still think of him when I see a black and white cat. He had a similar white spike on his face, also. Your little guy is adorable :)

  14. Oh, how cute, is Maya liking the new one so far, or distant?...any hisses when it comes near her? lol, thats what happens to my male cats when a kitten comes near them, even with both being fixed!

Good Luck, will throw a couple names out for deciding on one when you get used to it's actions for what it most looks like!

    Soot, Sweep, Willow

  17. What a little Doll!!!! I certainly can relate!!! A few months ago I was outside my door (I live in an apt. building) picking up my Sunsay newspaper and when I got back to my front door I heard a MEW. I looked down and there was this little boy kitten staring up at me like HI!! I brought him in and was sure he belonged to someone so I put up flers and asked around...well now he belomgs to me!!! Your baby looks just like a cat that was in our family for 14 years and his name was Rocky. I miss him so very much!!
